Finding Warmth in the Heart of Winter

STEVE RUSSO
February arrives at a different pace. Winter is no longer new, but it has not loosened its grip either. The days remain short, the air still cold, yet there is a subtle shift toward warmth found less in the weather and more in how people show up for one another. It is a month shaped by intention, comfort, and moments that feel meaningful rather than rushed.
Across the Inland Northwest, that warmth shows up in quiet and powerful ways. Tables fill a little longer at dinner. Community events bring people together indoors. Acts of service and shared purpose remind us that connection remains strong, even in the coldest stretch of the season. February does not ask for big changes. It asks for presence.
This issue reflects that spirit. Inside, you will find stories centered on winter wellness, shared experiences, and simple ways to care for yourself and others. We also share a local story highlighting the work of Inland Northwest Honor Flight, whose mission ensures local veterans can travel to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials dedicated to their service. It is a reminder that honoring those who served often begins right here at home.
As winter continues, I hope this edition offers a sense of ease and a reminder that warmth is often something we create, one choice, one evening, one moment at a time.

Warmth in the Small Moments
The quiet routines that shape February in Spokane
By Like Media Team
ebruary in Spokane moves at a quieter pace. The days are still short, the air is still sharp, and winter has fully settled in. This isn’t a month built for momentum or reinvention. It works best as a pause — a stretch of time that allows life to level out after the holidays and before the pace picks up again.
Mornings arrive slowly. Light filters in later, softer than it was in summer, and the day doesn’t demand immediate attention. Coffee becomes part of the morning rather than something rushed through. The house stays quiet a little longer. These slower starts help establish a steadier rhythm before the day unfolds, making everything that follows feel more manageable.
Evenings tend to simplify as well. Lighting softens. Candles appear on counters or tables, less as decoration and more as a practical way to warm a room. Meals are straightforward and familiar, often shared at home...

Honoring Heroes: Inland NW Honor Flight Gala & Casino Night
Returning February 20 to support veterans across the Inland Northwest

his month, the Inland Northwest community will come together for an evening of celebration, remembrance, and purpose at the 4th Annual Inland NW Honor Flight Gala & Casino Night, held at The Centennial Hotel in Spokane on February 20. More than just a night of dinner and entertainment, the event plays a vital role in supporting Inland Northwest Honor Flight’s mission to honor local veterans through life-changing trips to Washington, D.C.
Inland Northwest Honor Flight is a regional hub of the national Honor Flight Network and has been serving veterans since its founding in May 2009. Its mission is both simple and profound: to transport Inland Northwest war veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring their service and sacrifice. While applications are welcomed from World War II and Korean War veterans, the majority of participants today are Vietnam War veterans, served on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to veterans facing terminal illness.

“At the heart of Inland Northwest Honor Flight is expressing gratitude to the brave men and women who served during times of conflict,” shares Event Coordinator Jill Wheatley. “Every veteran we serve is treated with honor and respect, no matter where or how they served.”
This year’s Gala & Casino Night promises an evening filled with energy and connection. Guests can enjoy a full dinner, a variety of casino and amusement games, and live music by the Kevin Shay Band, alongside heartfelt stories that capture the spirit of hope and healing at the center of the Honor Flight experience.
